Potassium silicate is a source of highly soluble potassium and silicon. It is used in agricultural production systems primarily as a silica amendment, and has the added benefit of supplying small amounts of potassium.
Silicon is an essential micronutrient, and deficiencies significantly affect plant health. However, such deficiencies are rare except in cases of silica-accumulating crops (sugarcane, rice) and/or highly weathered soils typical of tropical regions.
