Bacillus Thuringiensis Kurstaki is a naturally occurring rod-shaped, spore-forming, aerobic, grampositive micro-organism (bacterium) that is found throughout most areas of the world. It can be found in soils and on leaves/needles and in other common environmental situations. When the bacteria produces spores, it also produces unique crystalline proteins. When eaten, these natural proteins are toxic to certain insects.

 

MODE OF ACTION:

Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki  must be eaten by the target pest larvae in order to cause mortality. The ingested bacterium is not what kills the larvae, but rather a protein crystal produced by the bacterium.
The crystal carries a toxin that is lethal to some lepidopteran larvae. To release the toxin, the crystals require the alkaline environment found in the gut of lepidopteran larvae.
When Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki  is eaten by a susceptible larva, the toxin is released, the midgut wall is destroyed, the gut becomes paralyzed, and the larva stops feeding within a few minutes. Destruction of the midgut wall allows the bacteria to enter the blood of the target insect, causing full-scale infection and death of the insect. This process may take 3-5 days so, unlike the situation with some chemical insecticides, there is not an immediate knockdown of insects following treatment.

Bio Consortium is a biological insecticide based on a consortium of selected strains of beneficial naturally occurring microbes that protects crops from Borer attack caused by several types of borers like stem borer and shoot borer.
Bio Consortium is used as an effective foliar spray/ stem swabbing agent, to combat borers through the antagonism expressed by the microbial consortia towards borers.

MODE OF ACTION:

The fungus attaches to the external body surface of insects and larvae in the form of microscopic spores. Under the right conditions of temperature and humidity, these spores germinate, grow as hyphae and colonize the insect’s cuticle; eventually they bore through it and reach the insects body cavity. After some time the insect is killed.
After death occurs, the fungus proceeds to grow off the host producing a white bloom effect. The insect is covered by a white to yellowish cottony/mealy mold layer. The conidia spores are then released into the environment and a new life cycle begins ensuring constant control of the target pests.

Paecilomyces Lilacinus is a naturally occurring fungus found in many kinds of soils throughout the world. As a pesticide active ingredient, Paecilomyces lilacinus is applied to soil to control nematodes that attack plant roots.
The fungus showed no toxicity or pathogenicity when tested in rodents and various invertebrates. Paecilomyces lilacinus  does not survive at human body temperature.

Nematodes feed damage the plant roots and reduce the water and nutrient uptake which results in reduction in yield. In addition, the infested plant becomes more vulnerable to other stress factors such as heat, water shortage, nutritional deficiencies and disease causing organisms. It is difficult to control these nematodes with common chemical pesticides.

It is a talc based formulation of nematophagous fungus, Paecilomyces lilacinus, that is capable of parasitizing nematode eggs, juveniles and females, and thus reduces the plant parasitic nematode population in the soil.

MODE OF ACTION:

The spore of this fungus acts by infecting, parasitizing and killing eggs, juveniles and young adults of most phytophagous nematode species. When the spore comes in contact with different stages , they germinate and grow and proliferate throughout it eventually paralysing  leading to the death of the nematode.

The  Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) is a species in the order of Lepidoptera and is the larval life stage of a fall armyworm moth. It is regarded as a pest and can damage and destroy a wide variety of crops, which causes large economic damage.
Its scientific name derives from frugiperda, named because of the species ability to destroy crops. Because of its propensity for destruction, the fall armyworm's habits and possibilities for crop protection have been studied in depth.

Egg :
Eggs are spherical and creamy in colour, which are laid in a group covered over with grey hairs.

Larva :
The caterpillars are light green with yellowish white lateral and dorsal stripes in the early stage and later become dark brown or grayish green in colour with a crescent (Semi-circular) shaped black spot on the side of each segment.

Pupa :
They pupate inside the soil in earthen cocoons. Pupa is
dark brown and measures 16-17mm long.

Adult :
The adult moth is medium sized, stout built dark brown with a conspicuous triangular black spot on the forewings. Hind wings are brownish white with thin black margins.

BIOLOGICAL METHODS:

•Parasitoids such as tachinids, ichneumonids, eulophids,     chalcids, and braconid wasps parasitize this pest.Meadow   grasshoppers, ants, birds and toads feed on the pest.
